Background
The Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka (FPASL) is seeking a creative, motivated, and feminist Communications individual to support the Youth Team in developing engaging, accessible, and youth-friendly communications around sexual and reproductive health, rights and justice (SRHRJ), gender equality, youth rights, and social justice.
The Communications Placement will work closely with the Youth Team to develop digital content, support campaigns and awareness activities, and contribute to communications planning and storytelling. The role is particularly suited to someone who is interested in using communications and social media as a tool for feminist advocacy, youth engagement, and social change.
We welcome applications from individuals at different stages of their education and career who are interested in gaining practical experience through a placement opportunity. Applicants may be final-year undergraduates, recent graduates, or individuals who have completed their studies and are intentionally seeking a placement to build their experience in communications and advocacy. The placement is supported by a monthly financial support towards expenses associated with the individual’s engagement and participation in the Youth Team.
Scope of Work
The selected individual will be responsible for:
Supporting the Youth Team in developing youth-friendly and feminist communications content for social media, campaigns, awareness activities, and other outreach initiatives.
Researching and developing content related to SRHR, gender, youth rights, health, feminism, and social justice, ensuring that information is accurate, accessible, inclusive, and appropriate for young audiences.
Supporting the drafting, editing, and development of communications materials, including social media captions, articles, campaign messages, briefs, awareness materials, and other digital content.
Contributing creative ideas for youth-focused campaigns, storytelling, digital engagement, and awareness-raising activities.
Supporting content planning and the development of monthly communications calendars for the Youth Team.
Supporting the documentation of selected youth activities, events, campaigns, and other initiatives through written, photographic, video, or social media content where required.
Supporting the Youth Team in coordinating communications outputs with relevant project teams and FPASL staff.
Contributing to discussions on how SRHR and feminist issues can be communicated in ways that are engaging, accessible, relevant, and meaningful to young people.
Undertaking other communications-related tasks relevant to the work of the Youth Team, as agreed with the designated focal point.
Expected Deliverables
During the three-month placement, the individual will be expected to contribute to:
A monthly content plan/calendar for Youth Team communications.
Drafting and editing social media content, campaign materials, and written content.
Creative content and communications support for selected themes, youth activities, events, and campaigns.
Documentation and digital storytelling related to selected themes and Youth Team activities.
A brief end-of-placement summary documenting key communications activities, contributions, and outputs.
Duration and Commitment
Duration: Three months – October to December 2026
Commitment: Two – three days per week
Specific working days and hours will be agreed upon with the individual and the project team.
The placement includes financial support towards expenses associated with the placement in the Youth Team.

Applicants should demonstrate:
Currently pursuing or having completed an undergraduate degree in Communications, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Health, International Relations, Political Science, or another relevant field.
Applicants who do not have a degree directly related to communications but can demonstrate relevant communications, creative, advocacy, or content-development experience are also encouraged to apply.
A clear commitment to feminist values, including an understanding of gender equality, intersectionality, inclusion, bodily autonomy, and social justice.
A genuine interest in sexual and reproductive health, rights and justice (SRHRJ) and related issues.
A background, previous experience, or demonstrated engagement in SRHR is highly valued but not mandatory and will be considered an added advantage.
Experience or demonstrated interest in developing educational, advocacy, communications, social media, or creative content.
Strong written and spoken English language skills, with the ability to communicate complex or sensitive topics clearly and appropriately for young audiences.
An understanding of youth-oriented digital communications and social media.
The ability to think creatively and contribute ideas for campaigns, storytelling, and digital engagement.
Ability to work collaboratively, receive feedback, take initiative, and meet agreed deadlines.
Familiarity with basic digital content creation and design tools is an advantage.
An openness to learning and engaging with sensitive SRHR and gender-related topics in a respectful, inclusive, and responsible manner.
An academic qualification alone will not determine selection. We are particularly interested in applicants who can demonstrate their creativity, writing ability, feminist values, interest in SRHR, and willingness to learn.

Applicants are required to submit the following:
1. CV
A current CV highlighting relevant education, experience, internships, advocacy, communications, creative work, or other relevant activities.

The submission may be a social media graphic, carousel, campaign post, video, reel, or another form of digital content.
The content does not necessarily need to be related to SRHR. We are interested in seeing the applicant's creative thinking, visual communication, and ability to communicate an idea through digital content.
3. Written Work Sample

This may be, for example:
An academic essay or university assignment;
An article or opinion piece;
A social media or campaign content piece;
A blog or other published writing;
Another relevant piece of original written work.
The written sample does not need to be related to SRHR. It is intended to help us understand the applicant's writing style, ability to communicate ideas, and capacity to structure and develop written content.
Declaration of Original Work
When submitting their application, applicants should include the following statement in the email accompanying their CV and samples:
“I confirm that the written sample submitted with this application is my own original work. It was written by me and has not been written or substantially produced by another person or by artificial intelligence.”
Applicants should only submit work that they have permission to share and that does not contain confidential or sensitive information belonging to another individual or organisation.
Reporting and Coordination
The individual will work closely with the FPASL Youth Team and report to the designated focal point.
All work will be carried out in consultation with FPASL to ensure alignment with the organisation's SRHR values, feminist principles, safeguarding standards, and project objectives.
The individualwill be expected to maintain confidentiality and adhere to organisational policies and guidelines when working with youth-related content, information, photographs, stories, or other materials.
Regular check-ins will be held with the designated focal point to provide guidance, review progress, discuss upcoming communications activities, and provide feedback on deliverables.
