SPRINT IV Project (2026) - Strengthening Sexual and Reproductive Health in Emergencies (SRHiE)

The SPRINT Project, implemented by FPA Sri Lanka, aims to strengthen disaster preparedness and emergency response by integrating Sexual and Reproductive Health in Emergencies (SRHiE) into national and sub-national disaster management systems. The project works closely with government institutions, healthcare providers, and communities to ensure that essential sexual and reproductive health services remain accessible during emergencies while building more resilient and inclusive disaster response mechanisms.

Key Activities
  • Inclusive Community Engagement
    • Conducting and supporting Disaster Management Working Group Discussions at divisional level to strengthen community participation and promote inclusive decision-making in emergency preparedness and response.
  • Strategic Coordination
    • Facilitating Steering Committee Meetings to strengthen collaboration among government institutions and key stakeholders, ensuring coordinated planning and implementation of SRHiE initiatives.
  • Readiness Assessment
    • Conducting Sub-National MISP Readiness Assessments in disaster-prone districts to identify gaps, strengthen preparedness, and improve emergency response systems.
  • Emergency Preparedness Supplies
    • Prepositioning essential medical equipment, medical supplies, and transgender kits within FPASL Service Delivery Points (SDPs) to ensure timely access to critical resources during emergencies.
  • Training & Capacity Building
    • SRHiE MISP Training: Building the capacity of first-line medical staff in disaster-prone districts to deliver life-saving sexual and reproductive health services during emergencies.
    • Youth Disaster Response Training: Equipping young people with practical knowledge and skills in disaster preparedness, emergency response, and SRHiE advocacy within their communities.
    • Staff Capacity Building on SRHiE & Surge: Strengthening FPASL staff competencies in emergency preparedness, surge mechanisms, and coordinated humanitarian response.
    • District-Level Simulation Exercises: Bringing together government agencies and district stakeholders to test emergency response plans, improve coordination, and strengthen practical preparedness through realistic simulation exercises.
  • Awareness & Social media campaigns 

    Developing awareness videos and digital campaigns to promote SRHiE knowledge and encourage meaningful engagement among youth, transgender persons, and persons with disabilities.
