Background
The Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka invites Expressions of Interest (EOI) from qualified research organizations, institutions, or individual consultants to conduct a systematic literature review (SLR) in line with PRISMA-SLR equator network guideline on rape and statutory rape in relation to abortion in selected districts of Sri Lanka.
Research Objective
The study aims to review documented public evidences, scholarly articles, cases of rape / statutory rape and to examine how these incidents are contributed in unintended pregnancies and subsequent abortions. The SLR will also explore the physical and psychological trauma experienced by the pregnant person and/or the newborn due to such pregnancies, based on available evidence and documented reports.
The findings of this research are expected to contribute towards development of an evidence-based research agenda, focused advocacy and policy dialogue on Gender Based Violence (GBV) and abortion law including policy reforms in Sri Lanka, particularly on the cases of rape and statutory rape.
Scope of Work
The selected organization/consultant will be expected to:
Conduct a comprehensive Systematic Literature Review using secondary data, published and unpublished literature, legal documents, case reports, policy documents, and relevant research studies.
Review available evidence related to rape, statutory rape, pregnancies resulting from such incidents, and abortion outcomes.
Examine reported physical, mental, emotional, and psychosocial impacts on the pregnant person and/or foetus associated with such pregnancies.
Analyze legal and policy frameworks related to rape, statutory rape, and abortion in Sri Lanka.
Identify gaps in policy, service provision, documentation, and access to care.
Develop recommendations to support policy reforms, research and advocacy efforts.
Prepare and submit an inception report, draft report, and final report.
Prepare and submit an advocacy policy brief.
Geographical Focus
Selected districts in Sri Lanka (to be suggested by the consulting company/individual, to FPA in the methodology).
Eligibility Criteria
Interested applicants should:
Have proven experience in conducting research, desk reviews, or legal/policy analysis related to SRHR, gender-based violence, child protection, public health, human rights, or law.
Demonstrate familiarity with the Sri Lankan legal, social, and health context.
Have strong analytical, qualitative research, and report-writing skills.
Possess experience handling sensitive and rights-based research topics.
Submission Requirements

Previous similar work or writing samples
Financial Proposal/Budget
CVs of key personnel involved in the assignment
Duration
The assignment is expected to be completed within 06 months.
Deliverables
Registration of review protocol approved by FPA Sri Lanka in a recognised SLR registration database (Ex: OSF, Prosporo).
Complete data searching, data screening and hand over the output of each step including the original source documents.
Complete data charting using a prespecified data charting tool approved by FPA Sri Lanka and hand over the completed charting sheet or database.
Conduct a presentation in a dissemination meeting
Submission of the review report satisfactory to FPA Sri Lanka.
