Legal Consultant | RFSU Funded “Leave No - One Behind”

Project Background: The RFSU Funded “Leave No - One Behind” Project is a One-Year project that aims to enhance Sexual and Reproductive Health, Rights and Justice (SRHRJ) of various marginalized communities across Sri Lanka. The project aims to enhance knowledge and awareness of Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) among young people, strengthen the capacities of teachers in special education schools, raise adolescents’ awareness on CSE, and support victims/survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) through legal assistance and capacity building of service providers at FPA Sri Lanka’s Service Delivery Points (SDPs).

Objectives and Locations:  

The Legal Consultant will be responsible for providing legal consultations to clients, filing cases upon the client’s request, and representing clients in court proceedings as required. The clients will be based at FPA Sri Lanka’s Service Delivery Points (SDPs) in Batticaloa, Nuwara Eliya, and Koggala.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide consultations to clients once a week from 02.00 PM to 05.00 PM (three hours) at designated FPA Sri Lanka Service Delivery Points (SDPs).

  • File cases in court as required by clients.

  • Appear in court on behalf of clients when necessary.

Required Qualifications / Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB).

  • Possession of the qualification of Attorney-at-Law is mandatory.

  • Previous court appearance experience in handling Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) cases is considered an essential additional qualification.

  • Minimum 3 years in legal case management.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in court appearances.

  • Based in Batticaloa, Nuwara Eliya or Koggala, depending on the preferred work location.
