Background
The Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka is seeking a qualified and experienced Script Writer / Director to rewrite and adapt an existing SRHR-focused theatre play into four (4) separate skits addressing key Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) themes. These skits will be used for youth and community engagement and advocacy.
The four thematic areas are:
Menstruation
Virginity and Social Norms
Contraception
LGBTIQA+
Laws Surrounding Termination of Pregnancy and Reproductive Rights
Each skit should be 15 minutes in duration, culturally sensitive, rights-based, engaging, and suitable for performance-based awareness and advocacy work.
Scope of Work
The selected Script Writer / Director will be responsible for:
Reviewing the existing SRHR play and related materials
Rewriting and restructuring the content into four distinct skits, each focused on one SRHR theme
Ensuring the scripts are:
Rights-based and aligned with SRHR principles
Age-appropriate and contextually relevant
Engaging, clear, and suitable for Sinhala theatre performance
Participating in consultation meetings with the project team and SRHR experts as required
Incorporating feedback from consultations into revised drafts
Submitting final scripts within the agreed timeline
Deliverables
Four (4) complete Sinhala skits, each 10–15 minutes long
Scripts that are performance-ready and suitable for community or youth theatre settings
Final revised versions incorporating feedback from consultations
Duration
2–3 weeks from the commencement of consultations
The assignment is expected to begin immediately upon selection
Required Qualifications & Experience
Applicants must demonstrate:
Proven experience in script writing and/or directing Sinhala drama or theatre
A background in SRHR, gender, or related social justice themes is an advantage.
Prior experience working on educational, advocacy, or community-based theatre is an advantage
Ability to translate complex SRHR topics into engaging, accessible, and culturally appropriate theatrical content
Excellent written Sinhala language skills
Reporting & Coordination
The Script Writer / Director will work closely with the project team and designated focal point
All work will be carried out in consultation with the organization to ensure alignment with SRHR values and project objectives
