⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣As part of their study tour, the European Parliamentary Forum for Sexual and Reproductive Rights (EPF) delegation visited Koggala, where FPA Sri Lanka operates a Service Delivery Point near the Export Processing Zone (EPZ).
A forum was held with government officials, community leaders, and EPZ stakeholders, including the Board of Investment, for in-depth discussions on delivering SRHR services in the region, with a focus on industrial zone communities.
Dr. T.B. Wimalasena, Provincial Director of Health Services, and Dr. Amila Chandrasiri, Consultant Community Physician, Regional Director of Health Services, Galle, shared insights on SRHR services delivered through the public health system, highlighting outreach to adolescents and school children, the role of MOH units, and integration into the maternal care package.
Dr. Darshani Wijeywickrama, Consultant Venereologist in Galle, shared insights on SRHR services delivered through the hospital system. She detailed the operation of STD clinics in government hospitals, HIV screening programmes, the availability of PrEP, and the ongoing care and treatment for people living with HIV.
Mr. Prasanna Weerasinghe from MAS Unichela, located in the EPZ, explained how SRHR is integrated into workplace settings through employee inductions, access to contraceptives at factory medical centres, and awareness programmes on GBV and the “Women Go Beyond” initiative, which supports women’s health, career growth, and overall well-being.
Following this, a panel discussion and Q&A session took place. Mr. Priyanka Ranatunga, Director, Board of Investment, Koggala, joined the panel along with representatives from NGOs working on the ground, including the Samadhi Community Development Foundation and the Human and Natural Resources Development Foundation.
The visit provided an important opportunity for the EPF delegation to understand how SRHR services are practically implemented across various systems on the ground.
This visit marked the final stop in the EPF delegation’s tour of FPA Sri Lanka’s Service Delivery Point locations, each uniquely tailored to community needs, offering key insights into FPA’s and Sri Lanka’s efforts toward inclusive, accessible, and rights-based SRHR services.
