This review of the Beijing +20 Youth Statement was held on the 23rd of February 2015

This review of the Beijing +20 Youth Statement was held on the 23rd of February 2015 at the FPA Headquarters in Colombo and was funded by the International Women’s Health Coalition and was held in partnership with the Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka. This project was initiated and coordinated by Sarah Ashaya Soysa. It is a follow-up on the first ever Beijing + 20 Youth Review on SRHR and Gender Equality held in preparation for the 59th Commission on the Status of Women.

27 young people from 18 different CSOs, youth networks and Government bodies were a part of the youth review and the “Advocacy in Practice” training that was held prior on the 6th and 7th of February, after which youth recommendations were made into a draft youth statement on SRHR and Gender Equality in Sri Lanka.

The Director of Advocacy and HIV/AIDS of the FPA Sri Lanka, Mrs. Madusha Dissanayake, participated in the review meeting during which the youth statement was reviewed and finalized by an expert panel that included youth advocates and the final youth statement was later presented to the Minister of Women's Affairs Sri Lanka and to the Chairperson of the National Committee on Women who are the National delegates to the 59th Commission on the Status of Women.
