Online Youth Camp - For youth in the Hambantota District

Under the UNFPA FP2020 Project, FPA held a three-day (03-hour sessions per day) online youth camp for 50 youth from the Hambantota District. The youth were contacted through the CSOs working in the area, universities and youth clubs operating in the Hambantota District.

Participants were able to discuss the specific challenges they face in accessing and using modern contraceptive methods while being trained on the methods that exist and how best to access them. 36 young girls and 14 young boys participated at this online youth camp.

In the future, the trained youth will create an advocacy strategy for their peers in their districts.

Subject areas discussed: Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, Anatomy and puberty, Contraception, Pregnancy and Termination, Gender and GBV, Relationships and Services and referrals.

The Resource persons were from the Youth Advocacy Network of Sri Lanka (YANSL)/ The programme was conducted by Shelani Palihawadana, Desaree Amaya Soysa, Sandini Yashodha Rajapaksha, Nilupuli Nayanathara, Nishadi Gunatilake, Sanduni Asanka Hettigoda and Tharindi Devasurendra.

The programme was facilitated by Arnjali Samarasekera - Project Consultant (UNFPA) and Janaka Ravindra Liyanage - Field Coordinator (Southern Province).
