Project Coordinator – Pathways to recognition

Background

Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka (FPASL), under the IPPF Centre of Excellence on SOGIESC, is implementing a national project titled Pathways to Recognition. The project aims to develop and disseminate a publicly accessible, trilingual toolkit that supports individuals navigating identity‑related documentation and specialised health service pathways in Sri Lanka.

The project adopts a person-centred, community-informed approach that bridges critical information gaps, reduces gatekeeping, and promotes transparency and access to SRHR for individuals facing identity-related service barriers. It will engage individuals with lived experience of navigating such systems, alongside policymakers and health institutions across several districts.

Position Summary

The Project Coordinator will be responsible for the full cycle of project implementation including planning, coordination, stakeholder engagement, field oversight, reporting, and documentation. The position is essential to ensure timely delivery, compliance with donor requirements, and a high level of community and institutional engagement throughout the project.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Implementation

  • Lead day-to-day coordination of all project activities in line with the approved workplan.

  • Coordinate and support focus group discussions (FGDs), key informant interviews (KIIs), RTI filing, field visits, feedback sessions, dissemination events, and internal staff trainings.

  • Liaise with individuals who have firsthand experience navigating identity-related documentation and services, ensuring their engagement in toolkit development is safe, ethical, and meaningful.

Stakeholder & Community Engagement

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for peer navigators, contributors with lived experience of navigating identity-related systems, and other collaborating individuals.

  • Coordinate with trans-led CBOs, ministries (e.g. MoH, MoJ, MoWCA), legal experts, and influencers as needed.

  • Organise policy dialogues and facilitate institutional engagement processes.

Monitoring, Documentation & Reporting

  • Track activity-level indicators including participation numbers, toolkit feedback, and digital engagement metrics.

  • Maintain accurate records of field activities, meetings, and outputs.

  • Regular documentation of learning and activity summaries to be shared with FPASL and the donor in line with reporting requirements.

  • Contribute to internal review meetings and draft narrative reports for submission to the CoE.

Communications & Outreach

  • Support coordination of content creation (short videos, explainers, myth-busting posts).

  • Work with design/translation partners to finalise the toolkit and promotional materials.

  • Monitor and report digital toolkit dissemination performance (QR code scans, downloads, etc.).

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience managing community-based or rights-focused projects.

  • Demonstrated experience working with structurally excluded communities, including individuals navigating stigma or exclusion based on identity, documentation, or non-conformity to social norms.

  • Proven ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders including state actors, activists, and community groups.

  • Familiarity with SRHR, gender justice, and SOGIESC-related issues in the Sri Lankan context.

  • Strong writing, facilitation, and reporting skills.

  • Sinhala and/or Tamil proficiency required; English fluency preferred.

Other Requirements

  • Willingness to travel to field sites across multiple districts.

  • Commitment to feminist values, bodily autonomy, and intersectional inclusion.

  • Sensitivity to the privacy, safety, and lived experiences of individuals navigating identity-related systems and social stigma.
