"Bridging the GAP" Sexuality Education Programme at LEO Club

Effective communication and emotional intimacy are crucial for healthy relationships. Open, honest, and empathetic communication fosters emotional closeness, forming a strong foundation for fulfilling relationships. FPA Sri Lanka and the LEO Club of SLIIT-Malabe organised the "Bridging The GAP" workshop for students, featuring speakers from ALOKAYA Counselling Centre, Ms. Hema Ranawake, and Mental Health Professional Mr. Kusumanjalee Thilakarathne.

In Sri Lankan culture, discussing sex education openly is often uncomfortable. Our aim is to foster greater understanding among young adults so they have fewer problems with their sexual health and relationships.

The session addressed:

  • Enhancing Communication: Encouraging open and honest dialogue between partners about sexual desires.
  • Promoting Mutual Understanding: Helping young adults understand each other's sexual needs, preferences, and expectations.
  • Addressing Common Challenges: Tackling common issues such as mismatched libidos, performance anxiety, and navigating changes in sexual desire over time.
  • Building Confidence: Empowering individuals to feel confident in their sexuality and their ability to communicate their needs and desires to their partner.
  • Love in the Digital Age: Finding Love Online, Recognizing Common Red Flags, Sexting, Texting and Consent, and Setting Relationship Goals.
  • Providing Accurate Information: Offering comprehensive and up-to-date information about sexual health, anatomy, contraception, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
