FPA Sri Lanka conducted a media workshop for a core group of 25 media persons trained by FPA

FPA Sri Lanka conducted a media workshop for a core group of 25 media persons trained by FPA Sri Lanka under the Global Fund Multi Country South Asia Project, with the objective of creating a stigma and discrimination free society by creating a positive trend of ethical and responsible reporting of issues relating to SOGIE (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression), Human Rights and HIV. The group of media persons represented Sinhala and English medium; print, electronic and social media. 

The workshop was held on the 30th of September 2015 at FPA Sri Lanka headquarters. Presentations at the workshop were made by the former Commissioner of Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka, Dr. Prathiba Mahanamahewa on “Human Rights situation in relation to LGBT persons in Sri Lanka” and by Senior Superintendent of Police for the Colombo North Division, Mr. Ajith Rohana on "Progress made by Law Enforcement authorities in HIV prevention among key populations" (focusing on sharing experiences of current initiatives and emerging best practices).

The Director of Advocacy and HIV/AIDS – Ms Madu Dissanayake, made a presentation on youth, Comprehensive Sexuality Education and SOGIE in addition to chairing a panel discussion with community members who also participated in the workshop.
