
FPA Sri Lanka
The Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka, commonly known as the FPA Sri Lanka is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) established in 1953. A group of volunteers comprising medical professionals and philanthropists concerned about the health of mother and child pioneered the project. Over the years the organizationhas developed providing a range of services in the field of Sexual and reproductive health (SRH).
The FPA still remains an essentially a volunteer organization with a National council akin to a Board consisting of volunteers at the helm. The NC appoints an Executive Director to carry out the day to day activities according to policies decided by the NC through a team of professional staff. Technical advisory committees of volunteers assist these activities.
The FPA while promoting the well-being and quality of life of members from diverse communities, focuses on the poor, marginalized, stigmatized, socially excluded and underserved communities. Youth is another focus group.

Conforming to 49 standards of good governance, it is an accredited member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).
FPA Sri Lanka believes and acknowledges that sexuality and reproductive health is a fundamental human right of each woman and man. With a philosophy based on this principle, the organization now focuses on improving the acceptability and accessibility of SRH facilities by providing accurate information, adequate training and quality services while adopting a Rights Based and Gender Sensitive approach.
The association has a close and cordial working relationship with the Government of Sri Lanka. Also works in partnership with many other National and International organizations in implementing its work programme.
