FPA Sri Lanka conducted an interactive learning session on its Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) System at the FPA Sri Lanka Auditorium. Organised for the fifth consecutive intake of students from the Advanced Certificate Course in Monitoring and Evaluation at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, at the request of the Centre for Evaluation, the session aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and the practical application of M&E in an organisational setting.
The session provided participants with valuable insights into the structure, functionality, strengths and challenges of FPA Sri Lanka’s M&E system, highlighting its contribution to evidence-based decision-making, organisational learning, accountability and continuous improvement in service delivery.
Key areas covered included the essential components of an effective M&E system, fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making, electronic data collection, data quality assurance and the use of data visualisation for results-based management.
The sessions were facilitated by Mr. Janaranga Dewasurendra, Assistant Director of Monitoring & Evaluation; Mr. Duminda Rajakaruna, Assistant Director of Monitoring & Evaluation; and Mr. Amal Sugath Bandara, Assistant Director of Monitoring & Evaluation, with the support of the FPA Sri Lanka M&E Team, under the guidance of Mr. Suchira Suranga, Director of Organisational Learning and Evaluation.
The event also brought together senior representatives from the Department of Project Management and Monitoring, the Parliament of Sri Lanka and the Centre for Evaluation, creating opportunities for knowledge exchange, professional dialogue and institutional collaboration.
This learning initiative reaffirmed FPA Sri Lanka’s commitment to strengthening M&E capacities, promoting evidence-based practices and sharing practical experience with emerging M&E professionals. It also highlighted the importance of robust M&E systems in improving organisational performance, accountability and the quality of services delivered to communities.
