Under the theme “Resilient Futures: Youth Action for Crisis Response,” Youth Camps have commenced in the districts of Kandy, Badulla, and Nuwara Eliya from March onwards, for communities affected by last years’ Cyclone Ditwah. The initiative aims to support and motivate young people impacted by displacement and disruption, while equipping them with SRH knowledge and skills, encouraging participants to become informed advocates and active contributors within their communities.
One such camp was held in Doluwa, Gampola, on the 12th of May 2026, featuring learning sessions, interactive games, fellowship, and discussions.
The programme was attended by representatives from the New Zealand High Commission, including Ms. Gabrielle Isaak, Deputy High Commissioner, Ms. Sumudhu Jayasinghe, Policy Advisor, and Ms. Stephani Fernando, Executive Assistant. Representatives from UNFPA Sri Lanka, including Dr. Dayanath Ranatunga, Assistant Representative – UNFPA, Ms. Sarah Natali Soysa, National Programme Analyst – SRHR, together with the UNFPA team, also joined the programme.
Special appreciation is extended to Dr. Nayana Danapala, MOMCH – RDHS Office, Kandy, for serving as a resource person and contributing to the learning sessions.
These camps continue to create safe and engaging spaces for young people to connect and learn.
