Background
The Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka (FPASL) operates a national contraceptives sales and marketing programme that supports SRHR outcomes and contributes to organisational sustainability. As FPASL strengthens its commercial model, there is a need for an experienced Commercial Manager / Head of Commercial / Consultant to support the Executive Director by overseeing day-to-day commercial operations, channel performance, pricing execution, and revenue optimisation.
Purpose of the Assignment
The purpose of this position is to manage and coordinate commercial operations across sales, distribution, trade marketing, pricing, marketing execution, and channel development, ensuring alignment with the commercial strategy and objectives set by the Executive Director.
Scope of Work and Key Responsibilities
Oversee daily commercial operations across sales, distribution, and marketing execution
Implement commercial strategies, pricing frameworks, and channel development plans approved by the Executive Director
Coordinate with Sales, Marketing, Procurement, Supply Chain, and Logistics teams to ensure alignment and operational efficiency
Monitor channel profitability, product movement, distributor and retail performance, and territory coverage
Support the development of annual commercial operating plans, revenue targets, and performance frameworks
Manage promotional rollouts, channel incentives, trade marketing initiatives, and retail activation programmes
Track performance against commercial KPIs including revenue, margins, distribution penetration, and retail visibility
Conduct ongoing competitive landscape monitoring and prepare periodic market intelligence reports
Strengthen commercial SOPs, internal controls, and compliance with FPASL policies and governance standards
Prepare monthly commercial performance reports for senior management and governance committees
Conduct market research and customer insight analysis to identify growth opportunities and emerging consumer needs

Duration
One-year renewable contract or consultancy period based on FPASL requirements.
Qualification Requirements – Essential
Master’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Commerce, Finance, or a related field; and or equivalent professional qualification (e.g., CIM, CIMA, ACCA)
Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in FMCG, pharmaceutical distribution, commercial operations, or related sectors
Strong understanding of sales channels, route-to-market models, distributor management, and trade marketing practices
Demonstrated experience in pricing execution, product distribution, channel development, and commercial KPI management
Professional Chartered certification in Marketing is an added advantage
Proficiency in digital marketing applications, CRM systems, and sales analytics tools
Strong financial acumen with experience in forecasting, financial analysis, and budget management
Qualification Requirements – Desirable
Experience in SRHR, public health commodities, or social marketing programmes
Experience working with donor-funded commercial operations and related compliance
Familiarity with ERP, CRM, and integrated commercial management systems

Management & Reporting
The Commercial Manager reports directly to the Executive Director and works in close collaboration with Sales, Marketing, Brands, Procurement, Supply Chain, Finance, and relevant technical units.
Payment Terms
Salary or consultancy fee will be paid monthly based on validated deliverables and performance assessments.
