What is vaginal discharge?
Vaginal discharge in teenage girls is normal. It is usually clear or white in colour, thin in consistency, has no smell and does not cause itching. Normal vaginal discharge turns yellowish when it dries on underwear. The amount, colour and texture of the discharge changes throughout the menstrual cycle. Changes also happen during pregnancy and if there is infection.
What purpose does vaginal discharge serve?
Normal vaginal discharge has several purposes: cleaning and moistening the vagina, and helping to prevent and fight infections.
