Training of Trainers (TOT) programme - Health sector's response to Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV)

As part of the work plan of the RFSU (Riksförbundet för Sexuell Upplysning – IPPF Sweden) Grant for 2023, FPA's Advocacy Unit has partnered with The Family Health Bureau's, Gender and Women's Health Unit. The proposed work with the Gender and Women's Health Unit is to conduct a two-day residential Training of Trainers (TOT) programme for the newly appointed Medical officers of the Maternal and Child Health Unit (MOMCH) and Medical Officers (MOs) of Mithuru Piyasa on the health sector's response to Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV). 'Mithuru Piyasa' is the government's health clinic based in all major hospitals Islandwide to provide services for survivors of SGBV. On the 29th of March 2023, The Advocacy Unit of FPA Sri Lanka, along with the Gender and Women's Health Unit of The Family Health Bureau, initiated the 01st day of the two-day residential Training of Trainers (TOT) workshop. The full-day programme covered the topic of gender and gender based violence in-depth, and the sessions were conducted by Dr. Lakshman Senanayake: VOG (retired) and Gender expert and by Dr. Nethanjalie Mapitigama: CCP, National Programme Manager - Gender and Women's Health Unit. Thirty (30) MOMCH/MOs participated in the workshop which was funded by RFSU. Reported by Desaree Soysa: Project Consultant - RFSU.
