Role of Parliamentarians in demanding and use of evaluation to ensure “No one left behind” - National Dialogue at the Parliament of Sri Lanka

On the 7th of October, a session for parliamentarians was held at the parliament of Sri Lanka, organized by the Parliamentarians Forum for Development Evaluation - South Asia (PFDE) together with Department of Project Management and Monitoring (DPMM), Ministry of National Policies and Economic Development and Ministry of Public Enterprise Development. Parliamentarians from various parties attended the meeting and emphasized the need for an evaluation culture in the country.

Minister Hon. Kabir Hashim and State Minister Niroshan Perera chaired the meeting and also spoke about the importance of evaluation. Mr. V. Sivagnanasothy, Secretary - Ministry of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs, spoke on the topic “What is evaluation”. Mrs. Darshana Senanayake, Director General - DPMM, presented the key findings of the National Evaluation Plan.

This was a historical occasion held at the Sri Lankan parliament as the "Sri Lanka Parliamentarians Forum for Evaluation" was also launched at the event. Hon. Ananda Kumarasiri, Member of Parliament was appointed as the convener of the forum and the first meeting was held on the 11th of November.

Mr Suchira Suranga (Deputy Director M & E Unit) and Mr Duminda Rajakaruna ( Assistant Director M & E Unit) attended both these meetings.
