National programme to mark 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence

A national programme to mark 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence was held by the Sarvodaya Women’s Movement  on 6th December 2016 at the Sarvodaya Nagarodhaya Centre under the theme ‘From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World: Make Education Safe for All.’

 The chief guest was Prof Sarath Wijesooriya of the Colombo University, who delivered the key note address on the topic “From Peace at Home to Peace in the World- Eliminating Domestic Violence”.

The Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka with the support of the EC Champions project facilitated the national programme, and Mr. Senel Wanniaarachchi, the youth focal point of FPA Sri Lanka, conducted a session on ‘The social construction of gender and its effects on gender based violence’. The event was televised on two channels.
