International Day of Action for Women’s Health

The main goal of this day is to raise awareness on the issues related to women’s health and well being, including Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights.

FPA Sri Lanka had an online social media campaign to highlight that to choose when and whether she has children is a fundamental right belonging to all the world’s women! Staff from the Service Delivery Points and members of the Youth Technical Advisory Committee particpated in this campaign.

Sonali Gunasekera – Director Advocacy had this to say:

"We at FPA Sri Lanka would like to celebrate 'the International Day of Action for Women's Health' with a message to women across the globe.  During this period of lockdown and uncertainty the burden to women may have increased exponentially.  For some women this is a time to celebrate being together with quality time spent with children and spouses.  However for some others this has been an incredibly difficult time with an increase in abuse for both women and children and also an increase in household work for women as the carers of families.

Let’s take this day to celebrate women's health and lets protect women's sexual rights to decide if she wants to get married, who she wants to marry, her decision if and when to have children, the spacing of her children and protect her autonomy as a woman to help her decide what is best for her life”.
