Child protection through education - an effective and reliable prevention method

Schools can help keep children safe by being proactive rather than reactive. Through our Comprehensive Sexuality Programmes in schools, we impart information about healthy relationships and explore topics such as friendships, appropriate touch, keeping safe, recognising and assessing risk and knowing how and where to get help when needed.

Child abuse is responsible for a variety of physical- and mental-health-related consequences affecting children well into their adult years. To address this key issue, FPA Sri Lanka conducted a CSE programmes for the A' Level Students of Bishops College and Ladies College in Colombo which highlighted the different forms of abuse (Physical Abuse, Emotional or psychological abuse, Sexual Abuse, Neglect), and provided information on what constitutes child exploitation, incidence of child suicide in Sri Lanka and elaborated on children’s rights and the law pertaining to it.
