Strategic Focus > Advocacy
The 1986 United Nations declaration on the right to development affirms that it is indeed a human right. Employing this as a launch pad,all countries in South Asia have framed their policies on the commitment that the overarching objective of social and economic development is to enhance the wellbeing of every human being. This is done by respecting their rights and increasing their spectrum of choice. Unfortunately, Sri Lanka has not been successful in implementing the above due to the following factors:
Goal:To advocate for a strong public, political and financial commitment and support for SRHR at the national and sub-national level.
Main objectives
- The inclusion of Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) in development approaches are still in the initial level of conceptual recognition.
- Prominent in its absence are the cohesive liaisons among organizations, pressure groups and authoritative groups in promoting and building public opinion.
- Sexual and reproductive health services are not accessible to the disempowered, particularly those living in remote and low resource areas.
Goal:To advocate for a strong public, political and financial commitment and support for SRHR at the national and sub-national level.
Main objectives
- FPA Sri Lanka to increase government commitment and accountability for SRHR.
- FPA Sri Lanka to increase public support for the prioritization of SRHR in the national development agenda.
