Strategic Focus > Adolescents
FPA Sri Lanka has been working for over three decades to promote the interests of young people. Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) education in and outside schools have been done since early nineties. The focus is strongly youth-centered in all aspects ranging from programs, planning, designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating.
It is noteworthy that a significant number of volunteers at grass-roots level are young people and this speaks of the Association as a force which actively involves youth in promoting sexual and reproductive health awareness.
Sexuality and reproductive health are particularly sensitive issues making it difficult to provide accurate and timely SRH information to young persons. Their vulnerability to health and social hazards such as unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS, stems from a lack of knowledge.
Goal
To ensure all young people are aware of their sexual and reproductive rights, while empowering them to make informed choices and decisions regarding their sexual and reproductive health.
