As per the UN General Assembly resolution 69/270, the second meeting of the Asia Pacific Forum

As per the UN General Assembly resolution 69/270, the second meeting of the Asia Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development  was  organised by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). It was  held on the 21st and 22nd of May 2015 in Bangkok. FPA Sri Lanka's Director Advocacy & HIV, MsMaduDissanayake represented the Government at this meeting together with Mr Vajira Naranpanawa (Secretary to the State Ministry of Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment) who headed the delegation from Sri Lanka and Ms JeevaPalugaswewa - Environmental Management Officer, Sustainable Development Division, MoMDE. The theme of this year’s session was “Strengthening integration, implementation and review for Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific.”

The Forum involved member States, Key agencies within United Nations, private and Non-government  institutions, major groups and other stakeholders in dialogue on three key issues: (a) practical approaches for integration of the three dimensions of sustainable development; (b) the potential for a regional monitoring and accountability framework; and (c) the form and function of the Forum beyond 2015.

Ahead of the  APFSD, the Regional Conference on Aligning Corporate Sustainability with SDGs was convened on 20 May 2015 to facilitate the development of suitable plans on how the private sector should be involved in increasing the domestic funding and strengthening public-private partnerships as a way of sustainable development and those recommendations contributed to the final report of APFSD 2015. The meeting was organized by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the United Nations ESCAP.

These events were preceded by the Asia-Pacific Civil Society Forum on Sustainable Development that was held from the 16th to 18th of May 2015. The forum served as a preparatory event for both the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development 2015 and the Forum of Ministers and Environmental Authorities of Asia and the Pacific.

Asia Pacific Civil Society Forum  enabled civil society organizations from different sectors to be involved in the entire process through the Asia Pacific Regional CSO Engagement Mechanism. (A mechanism created for meaningful engagement of Civil societies within the Asia Pacific which IPPF is also a member representing the women’s Major group). Several Members of AP-RCEM delivered many statements specific to issues, communities and countries as a way of providing recommendations to the final report of the APFSD 2015.
