The 48th Annual scientific congress for 2015 of Sri Lanka College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists

The 48th Annual scientific congress for 2015 of Sri Lanka College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists was held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall from the 21st to the 23rd of August in collaboration with the International Gynecologic Cancer Society (IGCS) and featured renowned speakers from the UK, India, Australia, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.  FPA Sri Lanka sponsored a Symposium on Contraception and Post Abortion Care through the WHO Multi Country Study on Abortion. The Social Marketing Unit (SMP) also had a stall displaying their contraceptive product range at this event.

The theme of this year’s congress was "Empowering rightful needs of women's health through education, best practices & clinical governance" that would enable the creation of an environment in which women can make ‘’independent decisions regarding their personal development so that they would have equal rights in society’’.

Dr. Kanishka Karunaratne, President SLCOG also said“Women's health is an unfinished agenda in the world specially so in the south-east Asian region. Women are a major dynamic force which contributes to the economy of all nations. A nation that invest in women's employment, health and education are more likely to have better outcome, their children will be healthier and better educated. Therefore health of a nation is determined by the health of its girl child and woman”.
