EC Champions Project

The EC Champions Project in Sri Lanka: Creating Champions and Momentum for Progress in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)

Expected results of this project are as follows;

  • Increased commitment of parliamentarians and policy makers towards Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).
  • Enhanced capacity of networks of civil society organisations to influence political change in favour of SRHR nationally and regionally.
  • Improved legislation and funding in favour of SRHR as well as regional legislative improvement.
  • Increased uptake of SRH services by all people, particularly the most marginalised and vulnerable.

Building Civil Society networks simultaneously with parliamentarian's networks together with media and youth engagement for SRHR are the main activity areas.

In a two year period, FPA Sri Lanka has proven progress by working with Civil Societies and parliamentarians while advocacy is done through civil societies and parliamentarians as activities for Policy makers at various levels in the administrative structure of the country. FPA Sri Lanka has reached more than 905 women leaders and 400 men under the advocacy through parliamentarian’s campaign, which is a remarkable achievement.

Parliamentarians and Civil Society networks, the two main components, are working hand in hand at the grass root level which makes implementation easier.
