AusAID Project (CORE +) - Outreach Unit (June 2016)

Primary focus is on education, training and offering services through Service Delivery Points (SDPs) located in Ampara, Batticaloa, Koggala, Nuwara-Eliya, Maradana and Kilinochchi.

 Key objectives of the project are:

  1. To increase access to sexual and reproductive health services through static service delivery points
  2. To strengthen and improve SRH service delivery to underserved communities through outreach activities

To strengthen the existing systems related to service delivery and improve commodities security and management system 

 

 

Activities carried out to realise these objectives are:

  • Reaching out to marginalised communities in the hill country (plantation workers) through mobile clinics /vans and static clinic. (Nuwara-Eliya)
  • Serving the communities who were affected by terrorist activities in the eastern province. (Ampara and Batticaloa SDP’s).
  • Supporting migrant workers (Maradana SDP).
  • Working towards protecting the sexual rights of garment free trade zone (FTZ) workers (Koggala SDP) and also supporting associated clinics attached to the factories in the FTZ.
  • Service provision by Reproductive Health Promoters (RHPs) namely Volunteers Health Assistants.
  • Using NGOs in the working area to educate the community on SRHR issues and to organize mobile clinics.
  • Educating and conducting clinics for urban slum communities through the Maradana SDP
  • Satellite clinics
  • Educating youth and adolescents through mobile exhibitions in all SDPs.
  • Youth committees attached to each SDP educating youth on SRHR to become ‘peer educators’

Our continuous purpose is to upgrade the skills of service providers by giving them training on SRH, GBV (gender based violence), SGBV protocol, FP, abortion, STI, VCT, youth friendly health services and ensuring that men and key populations can access clinic services.
